Множинне заперечення в історії англійської мови

Abstract

У статті досліджуємо процес виходу із ужитку множинного заперечення як мовної зміни, ініційованої внутрішніми, структурно вмотивованими факторами. Проаналізовано роль мовних контактів й екстра¬лінгвіс¬тичних чинників заміни основної моделі актуалізації заперечення в ранньоновоанглійському реченні. Утрата множинного заперечення в ранньоновоанглійський період була наслідком переходу від моделі із заперечним елементом як вершини фрази (NegP) до моделі із заперечним елементом у позиції специфікатора (SpecNegP). Можливим джерелом прискорення заборони правила множинного заперечення в англійській мові є північні діалекти, де контакти зі скандинавськими мовами були найінтенсивнішими. The article studies the decline of multiple negation as a linguistic change initiated by structurally motivated internal factors. The role of language contacts is revealed as well as the extralinguistic factors affecting the change in the basic model of expressing negation in Early Modern English. Loss of multiple negation in Early Modern English is a result of the transition from a model with a negative element as the head of NegP to the model with a negative element as SpecNegP. Northern dialects due to the most intense contacts with the Scandinavian languages adopted the N1 model earlier and accelerated the penetration of the new negation rule into the southern standard. The prescriptive grammar of the 18th c., thus, required to use forms that were already the preferred option in the standard English.
