Abstract

The monograph is devoted to the study of the problems of organization and functioning of deprivation of liberty places in the Volyn province of the Russian Empire period beginning from the end of the XVIIIth century to the beginning of the XXth century. The paper describes the historiography of the problem and source base, examines the institute of deprivation of liberty as a form of criminal punishment in the pre-reform period, investigates the legal aspects of the execution of criminal punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty in the pre-reform period, analyzes the normative and legal framework for the functioning of places of deprivation of liberty, as well as their system and the authorities of places of deprivation of liberty in the Volyn province.
